Tech Mogul Eyal Waldman Warns of Democratic Decline Under Netanyahu

High-tech magnate Eyal Waldman, who lost his daughter and her partner in the Nova music festival massacre on October 7th, has issued a stark warning about the potential consequences of Benjamin Netanyahu winning the upcoming elections. Waldman believes such a victory could lead to a "serious problem" for Israel, characterized by a dysfunctional police force and Supreme Court, and a potential end to its democratic nature. He also predicts an increase in the emigration of talented individuals and a decline in the Israeli economy.

Waldman, a prominent figure in Israeli public life, expressed his hope for a different government, specifically mentioning a desire for Benny Gantz to win the elections, stating, "I hope Gantz wins the elections and then everything will be different." He revealed that he has received multiple offers to enter politics but has declined them, emphasizing he would only consider it if it were the "last thing left to do to save the country."

Waldman is well-known for founding Mellanox, which he sold to Nvidia for $7 billion. He currently heads Waldo Holdings, a private investment company. He recently received the Israel Prize for Entrepreneurship, despite an unsuccessful attempt to prevent him from receiving it due to his alleged 'Kaplanist' affiliation, a term often used to describe anti-government protesters.

Discussing his investments, Waldman mentioned his diversified portfolio, including real estate and various funds, as well as significant holdings in Nvidia. He expressed satisfaction with the Nvidia deal, believing the company, under Jensen Huang's leadership, will expand its operations in Israel, including a new center in Tivon with 10,000 employees. He also noted his positive outlook on Nvidia's profitability, driven by the growth of artificial intelligence (AI).

Regarding the risks of AI, Waldman acknowledged potential security threats if organizations are not managed properly but stressed that many companies are successfully leveraging AI for business growth. He also shared that his company had rejected investment opportunities in the media sector, including television and internet sites, after professional review, deeming the potential returns and influence insufficient.
