IDF Conducts Surprise Readiness Drill Across Israel

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched another surprise readiness exercise on Thursday morning, involving multiple locations nationwide. The drill, a joint effort between the Technology and Logistics Directorate and the Home Front Command, is set to continue until the afternoon. This exercise follows a similar large-scale military-wide drill held less than two weeks prior, on September 6th, which simulated multi-arena attacks including air, sea, and land incursions, missile fire, mass casualty events, and abductions. At that time, the IDF Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi, declared the IDF's foundational state as 'readiness for a surprise attack,' emphasizing the drills' purpose to test forces and commands from field units to the General Staff, partly in preparation for the holiday season.

The current exercise shifts focus to the home front, technology, and logistics. It aims to assess the ability to respond to a variety of unexpected operational scenarios, including the activation of reserves, the readiness of various systems, and decision-making processes from regional commands up to the highest levels of the General Staff. The IDF anticipates significant movement of security forces, military medical teams, and vehicles in various areas during the drill. The military stressed that there is no concern of an actual security incident and that this exercise was planned in advance as part of the 2026 training schedule.
