Iran's General Staff announced on Saturday that the Strait of Hormuz has been closed, saying the move responds to what it called violations by the United States and Israel of the ceasefire understandings. In its statement, the Iranian military described the closure as only "the first step" and warned that it would take further measures if the "aggression continues."
The announcement comes amid heightened concern over one of the world's most important shipping lanes, where vessels were shown stranded in the strait. However, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said in an interview with Fox News that there is no evidence Iran is actually shutting the Strait of Hormuz.
