Man Sets Himself on Fire While Attempting Arson Over Divorce Dispute

Dramatic security camera footage from Umm al-Fahm, Israel, captured a startling incident where a man, allegedly attempting to set fire to a motorcycle due to a bitter divorce dispute, accidentally set himself ablaze and fled the scene engulfed in flames. The Haifa District Prosecutor's Office has since filed a serious indictment against him.

The footage, released by the police on Wednesday, shows the suspect exiting a white vehicle parked in a narrow alley. Armed with an accelerant, he approached a motorcycle and poured the substance onto it before igniting it. However, moments after the ignition, intense flames suddenly erupted around him, catching his clothes and body. He was seen fleeing the scene in panic, injured and burning, while trying to extinguish the flames on himself.

The driver who waited for him in the car also fled. Following the report, investigators from the Umm al-Fahm station launched a swift investigation. Through forensic evidence and analysis of the scene, they were able to track down and locate the suspect.

Evidence gathered indicated that the primary motive for the arson attempt was an ongoing conflict related to divorce proceedings. With a solid evidentiary basis compiled, the case was transferred to the Haifa District Prosecutor's Office, which filed the indictment against the suspect.

Israeli Police emphasized their continued commitment to combating violence, bullying, and arson, aiming to protect public safety and prosecute offenders who resort to criminal means to resolve disputes.
