Israel Defense Minister Rejects Ofer Winter for Gaza Migration Role

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has decided against appointing former General Ofer Winter to head an administration focused on migration from Gaza. The decision came after Winter publicly criticized the government and the military's strategy following the elimination of a Hamas commander in Rafah.

Winter reportedly stated that the current security strategy does not meet the nation's challenges. In response, Katz criticized Winter and other former military officials for their public critiques, labeling their views as outdated and dismissive of Israel's significant achievements in areas like Iran, Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria.

Katz highlighted that a secure zone is already established and controlled by the IDF in Gaza, and that ongoing targeted operations against Hamas leadership are maintaining the initiative and minimizing threats. He had previously considered Winter for the migration administration role but ultimately withdrew the offer after reviewing his recent statements.

Katz posted on X (formerly Twitter) that Winter's criticism of the government and the IDF, following the Hamas commander's elimination, mirrors that of other former officials with outdated security perspectives who ignore major achievements to attack the government. Katz asserted that Winter is not up-to-date.
