Leading Rabbis Gather for High Holy Days Preparation Event in Bnei Brak
A significant gathering for the preparation of the High Holy Days took place in Bnei Brak, attended by prominent rabbis and Torah scholars. The event, held for the students of the Ateret Gavriel Yeshiva, which was established approximately five years ago, featured addresses from leading figures including Rabbi Dovid Landu, Rabbi Mordechai Hirshel, the Mashgiach Rabbi Dovid Segal, Rabbi A. Salim, Rabbi Shimon Shtienman, and Rabbi Chaim Feinstein.
Rabbi Landu spoke about the importance of the scholars and students of Torah, stating that the world is sustained by their study. Rabbi Mordechai Hirshel urged the students to strengthen their Torah study, emphasizing that learning without idle talk is a great commandment and superior to learning that includes distractions, calling it the best preparation for the Day of Judgment.
The Mashgiach, Rabbi Dovid Segal, addressed the question of why it is important to strengthen oneself in the month of Elul, particularly in light of the prohibition against eating "pat pelter" (pre-baked bread) during the Ten Days of Repentance, even for those who eat it year-round. He explained that in Elul, a person reveals their true reality, and that the usual state throughout the year is incorrect, while Elul represents the correct state. He praised the students for dedicating themselves to Torah study throughout the year.
Other speakers included Rabbi A. Salim, Rabbi Chaim Feinstein, Rabbi Meir Tofik Aviazri, and the Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Avraham Yeshayahu Eliyahu. Additionally, a special letter from Rabbi Meir Sternbuch was read by his son, Rabbi Chaim Yaakov Sternbuch. The letter warned of the danger of not hearing the shofar when Rosh Hashanah falls on Shabbat, and that the rectification comes through proper Shabbat observance. He urged strengthening the study of Shabbat laws to invoke the merit of Shabbat observance.
At the conclusion of the event, a special souvenir, a calendar titled "Itim L'Vina" for the upcoming year 5787, was distributed to all the students.
