US Officials Hold Secret Talks With Houthi Representatives in Oman
U.S. representatives held a closed-door meeting with Houthi representatives in Oman over the past weekend, Reuters reported, citing five sources familiar with the negotiations. The meeting took place at the U.S. Embassy in Muscat, with the facilitation of Omani authorities. Houthi representatives at the talks included Mohammed Abdel Salam and Abdel Malik al-Ajri. The U.S. State Department has not officially confirmed the meeting.
According to two Reuters sources, the Houthis stated during the meeting that they do not intend to attack U.S. vessels and plan to adhere to a ceasefire agreement with Washington, reportedly concluded in 2025. One source in Yemen claimed that the Houthi representatives also announced they would cease attacks on Israeli and other commercial vessels, stating their sole targets are vessels belonging to Saudi Arabia.
