US Secretary of State Discusses Gulf Tensions with Oman's Foreign Minister

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a conversation on Tuesday with Oman's Foreign Minister, Badr Al-Busaidi, amidst heightened tensions in the Middle East. The discussion focused on efforts to de-escalate the situation in the Persian Gulf and mitigate its repercussions, aiming to create a stable environment for addressing ongoing regional issues.

According to the Omani state news agency, both officials exchanged ideas on fostering calm for the sake of regional security and stability. They agreed to continue consultations and coordination to strengthen bilateral relations between Muscat and Washington and to support efforts aimed at stabilizing the region.

The call comes against the backdrop of an escalating conflict between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi rebels in Yemen. The Houthis have seized the Bab al-Mandab Strait and continue to launch missiles toward major Saudi cities, including Mecca and Jeddah.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has reportedly been seeking international assistance, having previously approached U.S. and Israeli officials. He also commenced an official visit to Egypt on Tuesday, where he is expected to request support from Cairo to maintain control over the Red Sea's Suez Canal.
