Women's Basketball League Launches 2026-27 Season
The "Athena Winner" Women's Basketball League officially commenced its 2026-27 season with a festive opening event held at Ono Academic College on Wednesday. All league teams attended the event, which began with a seminar for referees on updated rules by the Referees Association. This was followed by a forum featuring Amos Frishman, Chairman of the Basketball Association, and Dana Sender, Chairwoman of the Premier League for Women.
Further program highlights included opening remarks from Professor Avi Moyal, Head of Sports Specialization at Ono Academic College, and greetings from Nurit Sharvit, Director of the Women's Sports Department at the Ministry of Culture and Sport, and Ofri Yakir, Athena Director. Dana Sender then presented the new game schedule for the 2026-27 season, followed by a special panel discussion.
The preseason tournament, the "Athena Winner" Tournament, is set to begin on Thursday with the qualifying rounds. The matchups include Hapoel Lev Jerusalem against Maccabi Bnot Karmiel, and Maccabi Haifa against Bnei Yehuda. The regular league season will officially tip off on Monday, September 28th, with a full slate of games.
