The story · English

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has expressed a significantly more optimistic outlook regarding relations with Israel, stating that discussions between the two nations aim for more than just a ceasefire. Aoun conveyed his hope for achieving peace between Lebanon and Israel.

During recent talks, the Lebanese president emphasized a deep commitment to dialogue with Israel, explaining that the objectives extend beyond the immediate benefit of a cessation of hostilities. "Lebanon wants to reach understandings, and an agreement, with Israel. We are interested in reaching understandings that will pave the way for peace," Aoun stated.

Furthermore, Aoun indicated Lebanon's intention to meet the conditions of negotiations with Israel. He explained that the Lebanese government and state are genuinely interested in bringing all weapons in the country under the control of the official government, disarming Hezbollah, and are working to form a new international force to maintain the demilitarization of southern Lebanon.
