Russia Aided Iran in Targeting US Assets in Middle East, CNN Reports

Russia provided significant intelligence support to Iran, enabling Tehran to conduct more precise attacks against American assets in the Middle East, according to a CNN report. This assistance reportedly included detailed intelligence from Russian spy satellites that closely monitored U.S. movements and assets across the region.

The intelligence shared by Moscow allowed Iranian strike forces to target U.S. bases and facilities effectively. A notable instance highlighted in the report involved an attack on the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, a U.S.-Saudi facility. During this attack, 12 American soldiers were injured, significant infrastructure damage occurred, and an advanced AWACS control and command aircraft, valued at hundreds of millions of dollars, was destroyed even though it was not in its usual parking spot. Approximately 14 Russian satellites, including an advanced reconnaissance satellite, were observed orbiting the base shortly before the strike, capturing imagery of the target.

U.S. security officials are concerned that this may not be an isolated incident but rather part of an ongoing pattern. They suspect Russia has provided similar intelligence in other instances, potentially including information that aided in an attack on a CIA asset in Riyadh.

The report also notes the deepening alliance between Moscow and Tehran since Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Iran has supplied Russia with drones and military equipment, while Russia, in return, has offered intelligence and technological support to Iran. The Caspian Sea has reportedly become a key maritime route for transferring these supplies.
