Russia Provided Iran Satellite Intel for US Base Attacks, CNN Reports

Russia provided Iran with advanced intelligence from 14 spy satellites during recent conflicts with the United States in the Middle East, according to a CNN report. This collaboration was particularly evident during an Iranian missile attack on the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia in late March. At that time, 14 Russian satellites, including an advanced reconnaissance satellite, were reportedly orbiting above the base shortly before the strike.

The intelligence allegedly helped Iran conduct precise attacks against American targets. The satellites were capable of capturing images of the base and intercepting communications, aiding in the identification of air defense systems. The attack resulted in the injury of 12 American soldiers and significant damage to the base, including the destruction of a U.S. AWACS control and early warning aircraft valued at hundreds of millions of dollars.

U.S. officials are concerned that this may not be an isolated incident, fearing Russia has provided similar intelligence to Iran on multiple occasions. This includes information that allegedly aided Iran in attacking a CIA asset in Riyadh. Russia has consistently denied providing such assistance to Iran.

The deepening alliance between Moscow and Tehran has intensified since Russia's invasion of Ukraine. While Iran has supplied Russia with drones for its war in Ukraine, Russia has reciprocated by providing intelligence support and advanced drone shipments to Iran during its confrontations with the U.S. and Israel. Israel has reportedly targeted shipping routes in the Caspian Sea used for Russian-Iranian transfers.
