Israel Restricts Private Car Travel to Jordan Ahead of Yom Kippur

Israel's Airports Authority, which oversees border crossings with Jordan and Egypt, has announced a temporary restriction on private vehicle travel from Israel to Jordan. The measure, effective from September 15th to September 20th, prohibits individuals from exiting Israel into Jordan via the Allenby Bridge and Yitzhak Rabin crossings using their own cars. This restriction is attributed to anticipated heavy traffic at the border points in the lead-up to Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.

For travelers without vehicles, a transfer service will be available at the Allenby Bridge crossing. This service will transport passengers from the Israeli side to the Jordanian side for a fee of 8 shekels per person. The Airports Authority advises travelers to verify schedules in advance.

Both border crossings will be completely closed on Yom Kippur itself, including for those traveling without private vehicles. This means no crossings will be permitted on the day of the holiday.
