Chief Rabbi David Lau Condemns 'Nezar' Film Creators

Chief Rabbi David Lau strongly criticized the creators of the film 'Nezar' during a visit to the 'Be'er Ha'Tchiyah' Hesder Yeshiva in Be'er Sheva on Tuesday. Responding to a question from a student recently discharged from combat service in the Golani Brigade, Rabbi Lau stated that the path to repentance for those who spread falsehoods is long and difficult, referencing a ruling by Maimonides.

Rabbi Lau highlighted the dangers posed by the film's content, particularly concerning the risks IDF soldiers face during combat operations. He asserted that the film contains significant falsehoods and that its dissemination endangers Jewish lives globally by potentially inciting animosity. "Those who have slandered the country and its warriors endanger the lives of Jews around the world," he stated, adding that their path to making amends is "almost impossible."

Despite his sharp criticism, Rabbi Lau advised the student to focus on his personal spiritual growth within the Beit Midrash (study hall) and leave the judgment of the filmmakers to God. The remarks were made during Rabbi Lau's visit to the Hesder Yeshiva, where he delivered a lesson on the tractate Bava Metzia to students, including eight who had recently completed their military service in the Golani and Armored Corps brigades.
