Ben Lederman has officially left Maccabi Tel Aviv after just one season and will return to Poland to join newly promoted top-flight side Wieczysta Krakow. The club said his contribution was appreciated, noting that he represented Maccabi with professionalism, commitment and dedication, and thanked him for his role on and off the pitch.
Lederman, who joined Maccabi Tel Aviv last July as a free agent after being released by Rakow, never really settled into the squad. He made 18 appearances in all competitions, most of them in Champions League and Europa League qualifying, while in the Israeli Premier League he played only four matches, totaling 75 minutes. In recent months, he was mainly a bench option.
Wieczysta, which is undergoing a major rebuild ahead of its first season in Poland's top division, has already parted ways with no fewer than 12 players, including Michal Pazdan. The club chose Lederman as a leading signing, and he has signed a two-year contract with an option for one more season.
Lederman is expected to lead the midfield for coach Kazimierz Moskal, formerly of Hapoel Tel Aviv and Ironi Ashdod. Wieczysta's first official match is scheduled for July 24 against Radomiak Radom.
