Roni Dalumi: A Decade of Hits and Stage Success
Roni Dalumi, who first rose to fame as a shy teenager with a powerful voice after winning the reality competition "A Star is Born" (Kokhav Nolad), has become one of Israel's most beloved singers and actresses. Celebrating her 35th birthday, Dalumi's career has spanned chart-topping hits, youth television series, leading theater roles, and even a return to competitive dancing.
Dalumi's artistic journey began not with singing, but with dance. Growing up in Beersheba and later Omer, she trained at the Bat Dor Dance Company school, demonstrating an early passion for performance through movement. Her television debut predated "A Star is Born"; she participated in the "Shir Nolad" show in 2005 and won the "Viva Eurovision" festival in 2008 with her rendition of the Sexta song "Cinderella." This performance caught the attention of "A Star is Born" producers.
Despite sometimes low rankings from judges like Gal Uchovsky during "A Star is Born" season seven, Dalumi secured the audience's support, winning the 2009 finale with 61% of the vote. Her victory was significant as she was the first female winner since Ninet Tayeb in 2003, breaking a six-year streak of male champions.
Her hit song "Ten" is a Hebrew adaptation of the Spanish song "Hoy," with lyrics by Gilad Segev, and was named Song of the Year at the Children's Choice Awards. By 2010, after releasing only two singles, "Ten" and "Ktzat Acheret," Dalumi had already earned three separate "Singer of the Year" titles.
Beyond music, Dalumi cultivated a successful acting career, appearing in Israeli series like "Euphoria" (the basis for the HBO hit), "Galiss," and "Chansi," as well as theater productions such as "Yentl" and "Chicago," earning two awards for her stage work. In the original "Euphoria," she played a character analogous to Zendaya's Rue in the American version.
Dalumi also returned to her dance roots, reaching third place in the 2025 season of "Dancing with the Stars." She married ophthalmologist Alon Weissman in 2016 and they reside in Ganei Tikva with their daughter, born in November 2023, with Dalumi generally keeping her family life private.
