Israeli Police Detective Charged with Assault and Obstruction

An indictment has been filed against an Israeli Police detective, accusing him of assaulting civilians and obstructing justice in three separate incidents between January and April 2025. A second detective is also charged with obstruction in one of these cases. The charges were brought by the Police Internal Investigations Department (Mahash) and filed at the Haifa Magistrate's Court.

The first incident, in April 2025, involved the primary accused detective, who was driving a police vehicle with three other officers. He allegedly blocked a civilian car after believing its occupants had cursed at him. The indictment states he then opened the driver's door, pushed the driver into his seat, and punched him in the face, causing injuries requiring stitches. Both detectives are accused of subsequently filing false reports to justify the stop.

In February 2025, during a search in Sajur, the detective is accused of punching a civilian, knocking him down, and kicking him. He allegedly struck the man again in a police car and threatened him, causing fractures to the eye socket and bruising that required hospitalization. The detective reportedly claimed the man was injured by hitting a wall.

The third charge, from January 2025, alleges that while driving in the village of Rama, the detective punched and scratched a complainant, threatening him with connections to the "Haib family." He is accused of filing a false report claiming the injuries resulted from the complainant's own disturbance, in an attempt to legitimize his use of force.

The indictment was filed by attorney Daniel Arfi, and the investigation was conducted by the northern team of Mahash.
