Lebanon Seeks to Postpone Maritime Border Talks With Israel

Lebanon has requested a postponement of the maritime border negotiations with Israel, which were scheduled to take place this week in Rome. The request, reported by Kan news, is attributed to Israeli military activity in the Al-Tahir Heights region. This development follows a previous report by Axios last week indicating the talks' delay. The negotiations aim to establish a force tasked with clearing areas in southern Lebanon of Hezbollah elements. Israel reportedly opposes the involvement of France and Britain in this force, while the United States is pushing for an expansion of the areas from which Israeli forces would withdraw and transfer to Lebanese army control.

In parallel, Israeli Ambassador to the United States, Yitzhak Herzog, is expected to meet with his Lebanese counterpart, Nada Hamadeh, at the U.S. State Department this week. The purpose of these separate diplomatic engagements is to discuss the ongoing maritime border dispute and potential resolutions.
