Basketball Player Cornelius Seeks Fresh Start with Fans After Incident

Maccabi Rishon LeZion guard Or Cornelius refused to play in the second half of a Winner Cup game against Hapoel Eilat on Monday, citing mental inability due to curses from a small group of fans. The team won the game 87-85.

Cornelius explained to Sport Channel that a past violent incident with Rishon LeZion fans years ago, when he played for Gilboa Galil, had taught him valuable lessons. He stated he has matured significantly and understands his importance to the team. "I am a big believer in unconditional love and I am willing to do everything for the fans and the club. From the beginning of my career to its end, I will give everything on the court," he said.

He expressed a desire to "start a new path, turn over a new leaf with the fans." Cornelius added that he spoke with dozens of fans after the game who assured him that most of them support him.

Team chairman Erez Ben Haim affirmed Cornelius's value to the team and confirmed that a reconciliation had occurred before his signing this year. Ben Haim also stated that such incidents of fans cursing or intimidating players would not be tolerated at Maccabi Rishon LeZion.
