AI System 'Yanai' Deployed in West Bank to Enhance Threat Detection

The Israeli military has begun deploying 'Yanai,' an artificial intelligence system developed by the Border Defense Corps, in the West Bank (Judea and Samaria). The system integrates data from various sources, including cameras, thermal sensors, radar, and drones, to create a unified situational picture for observers.

Yanai utilizes computer vision and AI to identify unusual movements and generate real-time alerts. This allows observers to quickly understand incidents and relay more precise information to forces on the ground. The system is designed to significantly shorten the time between threat detection and the arrival of forces at the scene, facilitating a faster connection between command centers and operational units.

Developed by commanders and officers within the Border Defense Corps, Yanai was specifically adapted to the complex urban environment of the West Bank. It was initially implemented a year ago in the Ephraim Brigade and is now being expanded across all command centers in the region. A key challenge in the area is distinguishing between routine activities and actual threats, and Yanai helps filter out background noise, reducing cognitive load on observers.

Beyond detection and alerts, the system digitally records incident phases, enabling more accurate debriefings, identification of recurring patterns, and improved force preparedness. A military official stated that Yanai provides observers with an additional layer of capability, allowing them to process more information, identify anomalies faster, and provide real-time, accurate intelligence to ground forces, ultimately aiming to shorten response times and neutralize threats.
