Yair Golan Calls for Channel 14 Closure or Reform

Yair Golan, a prominent figure in Israeli politics, has reiterated his strong criticism of Channel 14, stating that the right-wing outlet must either "align itself or be shut down." In a podcast interview, Golan argued that the station operates as a propaganda channel and that a democracy must defend itself against authoritarian tendencies. He distinguished Channel 14 from other right-wing media like Channel 7 and Makor Rishon, which he respects.

Golan also sharply criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whom he holds directly responsible for the "most severe security failure in the history of the State of Israel" on October 7th. He described Netanyahu as a "shallow person" who prioritizes personal and political needs over Israel's security interests and strategic depth. Golan asserted that Netanyahu's continued leadership after the October 7th failures is a "disgrace" and vowed to form a government focused on "healing, repair, and rehabilitation."

Regarding the formation of the next government, Golan indicated that opposition parties should form the coalition, with a high probability of a government including figures from Mansour Abbas to Avigdor Lieberman. He also addressed the issue of ultra-Orthodox conscription, highlighting the demographic shift and the burden on the general population. Golan called for a change in approach, advocating for the integration of the ultra-Orthodox into modern society and the workforce, noting that many young Haredim desire such a change.

He also commented on the Arab voter turnout, encouraging participation and stating there are enough mandates for all parties. Golan expressed his commitment to remaining active until a new government is established, emphasizing the importance of media responsibility in maintaining public discourse quality over ratings.
