Yair Golan Demands Channel 14 Become a News Outlet or Shut Down
In an interview on the program "Asnaheim," Yair Golan, chairman of the Democratic Party, sharply criticized Channel 14, labeling it a propaganda outlet rather than a legitimate news channel. Golan stated, "Channel 14 is a propaganda channel. Either it becomes a news channel, or it will be shut down." The interview, set to air on Channel 13, also addressed Channel 14's exclusion from covering the Democratic Party's primary conference.
Interviewer Omri Asnaheim raised claims that other channels, including Channel 12, are also seen as propaganda outlets. Golan rejected this comparison, calling it a false equivalence and insisting that while he has criticisms of Channel 12, it still operates as a genuine news organization. He emphasized the distinction between outright falsehoods and news that can be debated but remains connected to truth and reality.
Golan's remarks highlight ongoing tensions in Israeli media regarding perceptions of bias and the role of news outlets in political discourse. His demand for Channel 14 to reform or face closure underscores the polarized media environment in Israel.
