IDF Recruit Arrested for Protesting Administrative Orders Outside General's Office

A conscript soldier in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) was arrested on Tuesday morning outside the Central Command headquarters in Jerusalem after protesting the use of administrative detention orders. The soldier, on leave from his training, held signs outside the office of Central Command General Avi Bluth, specifically protesting the administrative detention of Tal Yinon Dardik, a resident of the Kfar Tarpion outpost.

Dardik's detention has been at the center of a dispute between Defense Minister Israel Katz and General Bluth. Dardik was initially arrested, released, and then re-arrested for violating the terms of his administrative order. The soldier's protest signs read, "Avi Bluth - Stop Administrative Orders" and "Avi Bluth - Stop Pursuing Tal Yinon Dardik."

The soldier, who was scheduled for a military court appearance on Tuesday, had his trial postponed to Wednesday. His lawyer, Daniel Shimshilashvili of the Honenu organization, stated that General Bluth's actions towards Dardik are outrageous and fuel protests, predicting more demonstrators if the perceived persecution of Dardik continues.

Dardik himself declared he would not cooperate with the administrative order and would go to jail rather than comply, framing his struggle as one against General Bluth's policy of issuing administrative orders against dozens of residents in Judea and Samaria. Security officials, however, rejected the notion of a personal vendetta against Dardik, stating he is suspected of a severe assault on a Palestinian in March and that his decision to go to jail was his own.

The IDF stated that the soldier acted contrary to expectations and will be tried soon.
