Hyenas Rescued From Illegal Captivity Near Tulkarm

Police and wildlife inspectors in the village of Shweika, near Tulkarm, rescued two adult hyenas and two cubs that were being held illegally in captivity. The animals were saved and transferred to specialists. Keeping protected wild animals without proper authorization is prohibited. Authorities arrested a roughly 60-year-old Tulkarm resident on suspicion of illegal possession of the hyenas. He was taken for questioning, and an investigation will determine the circumstances of how he acquired and kept the animals. The Nature and Parks Authority regularly conducts operations against the illegal trade and keeping of wild animals, citing threats to both animals and humans due to the specialized care required for wild predators. The rescued hyenas are under veterinary observation, and a decision regarding their future, including potential release into the wild, will be made after their condition is assessed.
