Israel's Water Supply Stable Despite Desalination Plant Issues

Israel's water economy is fully stable, with all desalination plants now operational, the Ministry of Energy announced on Sunday. Two facilities are running at full capacity, while others are operating partially, ensuring a continuous water supply to households and agriculture. Pumping from the Sea of Galilee has been reduced as part of long-term preparedness measures. To guarantee ongoing operations and water supply continuity, the desalination plants have ordered a stock of specialized membranes.

Reduced pumping from the Sea of Galilee and other wells is also attributed to lower water consumption during the recent holidays and the increased output from desalination plants. The water authority urged the public to continue practicing responsible and efficient water usage.

The operational issues at the desalination plants began recently due to an algae migration from the Nile Delta, causing significant turbidity in the seawater near the coast. This turbidity led to the shutdown of desalination facilities south of Hadera, which are crucial components of Israel's water supply system.
