Man Charged with Poisoning Baby Food Jars in Israel
Israel's State Prosecutor's Office has filed a severe indictment against Yan Shamla, a 41-year-old resident of Beersheba, for allegedly introducing prescription drugs into baby food jars and placing them for sale at "Zol U'Begalol" supermarket branches in the city. According to the indictment, Shamla crushed pills containing benzodiazepines, which are forbidden for child use, and inserted them into "Prunok" brand baby food. As a result of his alleged actions, five infants and toddlers, the youngest being 8 months old, consumed the poisoned food, collapsed, and were hospitalized with severe poisoning.
The prosecution is seeking to detain Shamla until the conclusion of legal proceedings. He faces charges including the use of dangerous poison, assaulting a minor or helpless person, and theft. The incident has raised significant public concern regarding consumer safety and the security of food products.
