Top Rabbis Issue Unique Decree for Orphan Support Fund

In an unusual move, leading rabbis and Hasidic leaders have jointly signed a decree offering a blessing for a good and sweet year to all donors supporting a special fund for orphans.

The decree, signed by Rabbi Baruch Dov Povarsky, Rabbi Moshe Ben Shimon, and the Rebbe of Modzhitz, states, "We decree that there will be a good and sweet year for all donors." This is presented as a reciprocal blessing, implying that just as the rabbinical court decrees good fortune for donors, so too will divine judgment be favorable. The message emphasizes that this is not merely a spiritual promise but a binding ruling, particularly significant during the High Holy Days when individuals seek merit.

The initiative aims to assist 58 orphans who are getting married in the upcoming Hebrew month of Tishrei. These individuals face the emotional pain of losing parents alongside the immense financial burden of starting a new household in Israel. The fund seeks to provide essential support to help them establish their own homes.

Donors are encouraged to contribute 580 shekels, which is symbolically divided into 10 shekels per orphan. The organizers highlight that even a small contribution of 10 shekels makes anyone a partner in this significant mitzvah (commandment). The campaign frames the donation as a direct way to help build 58 new homes and assures contributors that their merit will be recorded not just in accounting books but also in the "books of life."

The broader message is directed at all Jews, urging them to become active supporters of orphans and emphasizing the principle of "measure for measure," suggesting that those who provide new life and support to orphans will be blessed with life and abundance in return.
