Israel Targets Mansouri in Southern Lebanon to Thwart Hezbollah Redeployment

The Israeli military has intensified operations in the southern Lebanese town of Mansouri, following efforts in the Al-Taher heights, in what the army describes as measures to enhance security and prevent Hezbollah from re-establishing its presence. Mansouri is located within the "Blue Line" area Israel demarcates in western southern Lebanon, near the town of Marwahin. The town is a significant built-up area between Marwahin and the city of Tyre, making its geographical position strategically important for movement towards the south.

According to the Israeli military, the clearing operation in Mansouri is ongoing. Israeli military assessments suggest Hezbollah may attempt to return and utilize the town's buildings for attacks against Israeli forces in Marwahin and the western areas of Israel's security buffer zone. Mansouri, a predominantly Shiite town, was evacuated during recent fighting and its residents have not yet returned.

In recent weeks, the 55th Reserve Paratrooper Brigade has been operating systematically around Mansouri. Israeli Air Force strikes on buildings in Mansouri were reported on Monday morning. The army states that daily airstrikes, ranging from one to three, are conducted in the area, accompanied by artillery shelling. These strikes target buildings identified as containing explosives or offering observation and firing positions against Israeli forces.

Concurrently with the airstrikes, Israeli engineering corps units, supported by armored and reserve paratrooper forces, are operating on the outskirts of Mansouri. Their objective is to clear the area and dismantle what the Israeli military terms Hezbollah infrastructure. While Mansouri is topographically lower than Marwahin, its position on the access route from Tyre southward is considered crucial for potential Hezbollah military regrouping and operations against Israeli forces in western southern Lebanon.

The Israeli military asserts it has preempted Hezbollah's moves, believing the group sought to re-establish itself in Mansouri after realizing the clearing operation was incomplete. However, Israeli forces acted faster, targeting buildings and infrastructure to thwart these plans. The ongoing operations within the "Blue Line" are described by the army as part of security arrangements for the region up to Israel's designated border.

This operation in Mansouri follows the Israeli military's announcement over the weekend of destroying what it called Hezbollah's central tunnel network in the Al-Taher heights. Israel had previously warned Iran and Hezbollah against any retaliatory actions, threatening a broad military response. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stated that the army is operationally preparing to control the heights and prevent Hezbollah or any other entity from returning and rebuilding a military presence. These developments underscore Israel's continued operations in southern Lebanon, with a focus on areas within the "Blue Line," aiming to prevent Hezbollah from rebuilding its military capabilities and infrastructure for attacks against Israeli forces.
