Israel Becomes Top Target for Global Hacktivists, Report Finds

A new report from RedWare reveals that Israel has become the primary target for hacktivists worldwide, significantly surpassing Ukraine and the United States. In the first half of the year, Israel experienced 784 DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks, more than double the number faced by Ukraine.

The escalation of conflict with Iran has been identified as a major catalyst, drawing dozens of additional hacking groups into the digital arena. Approximately 60 groups joined campaigns targeting infrastructure in Israel, the US, and Gulf states. These groups included those aligned with Iran, as well as anti-Western and pro-Russian factions, extending the military confrontation into cyberspace.

The hashtag #OPISRAEL was used 469 times across group channels during the period, with over 250 mentions occurring in March alone. This indicates that the conflict with Iran not only triggered a surge in attacks but also broadened the spectrum of actors targeting Israel.

DDoS attacks aim to disrupt online services by overwhelming websites or platforms with a massive volume of traffic, causing them to slow down or cease functioning. This type of attack does not require breaching systems or stealing data, leading to immediate and visible disruptions for targeted organizations.
