Maccabi Tel Aviv Basketball Security Chief to Face Assault Charges
The security manager for Maccabi Tel Aviv's basketball team, Shi Buvlil, is suspected of punching a minor fan during the team's season-opening practice last Saturday. The case has been transferred to the police prosecution unit, and an indictment for assaulting the minor is expected.
The incident occurred at the Hador Yosef facility, where fans were setting off flares. Buvlil allegedly attacked the young fan and punched him during the commotion. He was detained for questioning by Tel Aviv North police, admitted to the incident, and took responsibility for his actions. He was subsequently released under restrictive conditions.
Buvlil, a former Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) operative and former deputy head of physical security at the Ministry of Defense, currently operates VIP services at Ben Gurion Airport. The alleged assault took place in front of other fans who had attended the practice, with the flares serving as the backdrop to the incident.
Maccabi Tel Aviv declined to comment on the matter.
