The Israel Basketball Association’s prosecutor, attorney Itamar Lifner, has decided to bring Hapoel Tel Aviv to disciplinary court over unsportsmanlike behavior by fans during Wednesday night’s game against Maccabi Tel Aviv. He asked the court to impose a financial fine on the club.
At the same time, Lifner said there was no reason to charge Maccabi Tel Aviv player Jaylen Hoard, despite a public demand from Hapoel Tel Aviv owner Ofer Yannay that disciplinary proceedings be opened against him.
In his ruling, Lifner wrote that the materials he reviewed showed the referees ordered a fan removed after a provocation by that supporter, and that there was no factual basis for disciplinary action against Hoard. The decision follows the derby incident that led to the complaint against Hapoel Tel Aviv.
