Windsurfer Daniela Peleg Recounts Dramatic Comeback at World Championships

Israeli windsurfer Daniela Peleg finished fourth at the recent World Championships in England, a significant achievement after a challenging start to the competition. This marked her sixth senior world championship, adding to her impressive resume which includes a silver medal from the 2022 World Championships at age 18, and two gold medals from the 2024 and 2025 European Championships.

Peleg's week was a rollercoaster of emotions and performance shifts. She began the championship poorly, finishing 32nd on the first day of qualifying and 31st on the second. This was uncharacteristic for her, especially after strong training sessions leading up to the event. "It was very frustrating," Peleg stated, "but I didn't give up."

Despite the initial setbacks, Peleg managed to regroup with three days of qualifying remaining. She steadily improved her standing, climbing into the top ten and qualifying for the final race day. She described her mindset entering the final race: "I came to devour. I knew I had nothing to lose. I put all my chips on this day."

During the final race, Peleg received a red flag penalty shortly after the start, forcing her to perform a 360-degree turn with her board. This penalty significantly impacted her race, pushing her back and making a podium finish, which would have been a full Israeli podium alongside Tamar and Sharon, impossible. "The disappointment was even greater," she admitted, "but it's part of the game and the sport."

Looking ahead, Peleg has a short break before resuming training for the next World Championships in January. This event will be crucial as it is the first opportunity to qualify for the Los Angeles Olympics, which is her primary goal.
