Ex-Minister Slams New Likud Candidate Over 'Second Camp' Remarks

Former Israeli minister Yizhar Shai, who lost his son on October 7th, sharply criticized Talik Guili, a new candidate for the Likud party and mother of a fallen soldier, for her recent statements about the opposition.

Guili, whose son Ran was killed on October 7th and whose body was taken to Gaza, joined the Likud party and stated in a video that if the "second camp" wins, the memory of fallen heroes will disappear. Shai, whose son Yaron was killed in the same battle, responded on Facebook, accusing Guili of joining Prime Minister Netanyahu, who he claims has weaponized division and incites against "the second camp."

Shai stated that Guili's remarks do not honor her son's memory or her own status as a bereaved mother. He argued that soldiers like Ran and his own son fought to protect all Israelis, not specific political factions. Shai accused Netanyahu of exploiting personal grief for political gain and of being responsible for the deaths of soldiers due to his alleged failures.

"I, a man of the 'second camp,' will never let the heroes of the kingdom be forgotten," Shai declared, emphasizing that grief transcends political divides. He urged Guili to consider that unity and remembrance are more important than defending the leader he holds responsible for her son's death. Shai concluded by wishing Guili success in politics, hoping her actions will honor all fallen soldiers.
