Israel Questions UN Over Photo of Jewish Children in Palestinian Exhibit

Israel's UN envoy, Danny Danon, has raised concerns about a photograph displayed at the UN headquarters in New York as part of an exhibit on the "Palestinian Question and the United Nations." Danon claims the archival photo, which depicts children alongside a UN vehicle and is captioned to suggest familiarity between UN observers and "children of Palestine" since the late 1940s, actually shows Jewish children. The exhibit, which has been in place for years, reportedly presents the conflict primarily from a Palestinian perspective.

Danon discovered the photograph after a Security Council meeting and subsequently appealed to the Israeli public on September 13th to help identify the individuals in the image. He stated that the UN presented Jewish children in the context of Palestinian refugee history and urged anyone who recognized individuals to come forward. Israel's mission aims to locate the subjects of the photo or their relatives to establish its true origin and context, independent of either side's interpretation.

If Danon's assertion is confirmed, the UN will face scrutiny over why a photograph of Jewish children was included in an exhibit focused on the Palestinian narrative without clear identification of the subjects. The exhibit is located within the UN headquarters and is intended for a global audience, making the context and origin of its materials significant in shaping perceptions of the conflict's history.

Israel intends to formally address the issue with the UN once the photograph's origin is clarified. If the children are confirmed to be Jewish, Israel plans to demand that the UN provide the full history of the image and correct the misleading context presented to visitors.
