Israel on High Alert Amid Hezbollah Tunnel Destruction and Gaza Operations

The Israeli military (IDF) is maintaining a high state of alert on multiple fronts, particularly in the north, following the destruction of a significant Hezbollah underground complex on Mount Ali Taher. The IDF reported that the destroyed infrastructure spanned over two kilometers and contained dozens of Iranian-made rockets, missiles, and drones, along with anti-tank missiles, mines, and explosives. The operation to demolish the complex involved over 1,100 tons of explosives and reportedly took two decades to build with Iranian funding and guidance, serving as a base for Hezbollah operatives.

In response to the destruction of the complex, the IDF is bracing for potential retaliation from Hezbollah and has conveyed messages to both the organization and Iran against escalation. The Northern Command and Air Force have prepared for multi-day combat scenarios and a multi-front conflict. Hezbollah has reportedly sought assistance from Iran following the Israeli action, though the border has remained quiet thus far. The Israeli Air Force has conducted further strikes in Lebanon in recent hours.

Concurrently, in the Gaza Strip, the IDF and Shin Bet assassinated Muhammad Yazouri, the commander of Hamas's Khan Yunis brigade, on Thursday night. Yazouri was a senior Hamas figure responsible for directing the brigade's operatives and planning attacks against Israeli forces and civilians. A company commander and another operative were also killed in the strike.

This assassination is part of a broader IDF effort to prevent Hamas from rebuilding its capabilities in Gaza. Intelligence indicates Hamas is working to restore tunnels, manufacture weapons, smuggle drones, and reactivate operatives. Security officials have warned that Hamas exploits lulls in fighting to rearm, prompting the IDF's continued operations against the organization's commanders, infrastructure, and capabilities. The IDF remains vigilant, balancing the threat of northern escalation with ongoing operations in Gaza to thwart Hamas's resurgence.
