Mother of Slain Hostage Ron Sherman Shares Final Birthday Wish

Maayan Sherman, mother of Ron Sherman, who was abducted by Hamas on October 7th and later killed in an Israeli airstrike, has shared a screenshot of his last birthday message to her. The message, sent about a month before his capture, expresses Ron's gratitude for his mother's support during a difficult year in the army, detailing struggles including a sudden asthma attack that prevented him from serving in combat roles and his eventual posting to a base he dreaded.

Ron Sherman was taken alive by Hamas from the Coordination and Liaison Administration (CLA) base on October 7th. He was killed while in captivity along with other hostages, Nick Beizer and Elia Toledano, as a byproduct of an Israeli airstrike targeting Hamas's northern Gaza brigade commander, Ahmed Randor, according to the IDF.

In her post, Dr. Sherman captioned the message, "The last blessing - a month before the Netanyahu massacre." She has been a vocal critic of the Israeli government and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on social media since her son's abduction and death.

Earlier this month, Sherman stated that if the current government remained in power, she would pull her daughter from combat service upon her upcoming enlistment, urging other mothers to do the same. She also faced backlash after criticizing Prime Minister Netanyahu and his wife for attending a performance by singer Eden Ben Zaken, asserting that anyone continuing to fund such artists was disrespecting her son's memory.
