Mother of Fallen Israeli Hostage Ron Sherman Threatens to Withdraw Daughter from Combat Service

Maayan Sherman, mother of Ron Sherman, an Israeli soldier who was kidnapped and killed by Hamas, announced on Facebook that her daughter Eden is set to enlist in combat service in three months. However, Maayan warned that if the current Israeli government, which she called a "murderous and shirking government," remains in power, she will remove her daughter from combat duty and encourage other mothers to do the same.

This statement follows a difficult period for the Sherman family, including a month ago when Ron's father, Alex Sherman, shared a painful message highlighting the social division and decay exposed by the public's harsh treatment of their family. The family has faced severe online abuse, particularly targeting Maayan Sherman after she criticized pro-government groups she labeled "baboons." One particularly offensive comment told her to disregard her son's kidnapping and death.

Ron Sherman was killed while in Hamas captivity, alongside fellow soldiers Nick Beizer and Elia Toldano. The Israeli military reported that their deaths were a "byproduct" of an Israeli airstrike targeting the northern Hamas brigade commander, Ahmed Randour. The Shermans' public expressions of grief and criticism have sparked significant controversy and highlighted the deep societal rifts in Israel regarding the government's handling of the conflict and its aftermath.
