Mother of Fallen Israeli Soldier Receives Death Threat, Files Police Complaint

Dr. Maayan Sherman, mother of Sergeant Ron Sherman who was kidnapped on October 7 and later killed by an IDF shelling, announced she will file a police complaint after receiving a death threat via phone at her clinic. She expressed no surprise at the threat, stating that "blood money has been allowed for several days now" and affirmed her commitment to speak her mind as long as it is her country. The threatening call deeply alarmed her clinic secretary.

The death threat followed harsh online backlash against Dr. Sherman after she responded to a post by Itamar Ben-Gvir's aide, referring to them as "baboons." She described the online abuse as filled with curses and severe wishes directed at her and her late son. In an interview with Kan News, Sherman criticized the aide as responsible for neglecting and causing the death of hostages and opposed to prisoner exchange deals. She characterized her attackers as "wild animals driven by hatred, lacking normal behavior or emotion, like baboons."

Sherman also addressed accusations related to her ethnicity and political stance, noting she received insults from both Ashkenazi and Mizrahi supporters of Benjamin Netanyahu and Ben-Gvir. Despite her South American married surname, she said assumptions about her being white and left-wing are inaccurate and irrelevant. She pledged to donate any compensation from lawsuits, calling the money "tainted."

The incident highlights the intense political and social tensions surrounding the recent conflict and the personal toll on families of fallen soldiers.
