Phuket Rosh Hashanah Feast Canceled Amid Security Concerns
A Rosh Hashanah feast planned for 2,000 Israeli travelers at the Chabad House in Phuket, Thailand, was canceled Friday evening due to demands from local security officials. The cancellation followed a hours-long pro-Palestinian demonstration in the area. Security forces likely feared that pro-Palestinian organizations might attempt to confront Israelis at the event.
Chabad House informed attendees, "Dear guests! Due to the demand of the Israeli security forces, to our great regret, we are canceling the event." They also advised guests, "Please do not approach the area, the demonstrators can be violent and it is dangerous. If you know of additional travelers who planned to come, please update them."
Despite the cancellation of the main feast, Chabad House stated that other holiday prayers and meals scheduled from Saturday onward would proceed as normal.
