Phuket Rosh Hashanah Celebration Canceled Amid Anti-Israel Protest
A Rosh Hashanah dinner planned for hundreds of Israelis at the Chabad center in Phuket, Thailand, was canceled in its original format due to a large anti-Israel demonstration. Protesters gathered for hours near the venue, chanting slogans including "Free Palestine." The event was initially expected to host around 1,000 participants at the Chabad center and a nearby hotel, continuing until midnight.
Thai authorities had approved the event with restrictions after a local group called "Save Phuket" unsuccessfully petitioned for its cancellation on security grounds. However, a protest took place on the day of the event. According to Thai media, over 500 people marched from Patong Beach towards the Chabad center, carrying signs such as "SAVE PHUKET NO ISRAEL." Consequently, local police were deployed to the area.
