Maccabi Tel Aviv Handball Team Begins European Campaign in Switzerland
Maccabi Tel Aviv's handball team is set to commence its European Federation Cup campaign this Saturday, September 17th, with an away match against Swiss side BSV. This marks the second consecutive season the club is competing in European tournaments. The first leg of the tie will be followed by a return match 24 hours later in the same location, as the two teams have never faced each other previously.
Last season, Maccabi Tel Aviv advanced past Anorthosis Famagusta of Cyprus before being eliminated by Buzău of Romania. BSV, their opponent, brings significant European experience, having reached the Challenge Cup quarterfinals in the 2019/20 season and the third round of the European Cup in 2023/24. Their most notable recent European performance was reaching the group stage of the EHF European League last season, where they competed against top-tier clubs like THW Kiel and Montpellier.
Maccabi Tel Aviv's coach, Avitar Givon, expressed his satisfaction with the team's continued participation in European competitions. "I am happy that we continue to play in the European framework this season," Givon stated. He described BSV as an "excellent team that presents a very high level of handball" and believes the European experience will benefit the team. Givon emphasized Maccabi Tel Aviv's intention to compete with a winning mentality in every match, including this upcoming tie against the Swiss team, aiming to advance further in the competition.
