Maccabi Tel Aviv Handball Kicks Off European Campaign in Switzerland
Maccabi Tel Aviv's handball team will begin their European Federation Cup campaign on Saturday at 5:00 PM Israel time, facing Swiss team BSV in the first leg of their opening round match. The return leg will take place 24 hours later at the same venue. This marks Maccabi Tel Aviv's second consecutive season competing in European tournaments. Last season, the team advanced past Anorthosis Famagusta of Cyprus before being eliminated by Buzau of Romania.
BSV enters the matchup with considerable European experience. In the 2019/20 season, they reached the quarterfinals of the Challenge Cup, and in the 2023/24 season, they advanced to the third round of the European Cup. Last season, BSV achieved its most significant European performance in recent years by reaching the group stage of the EHF European League, where they competed against top-tier teams like THW Kiel and Montpellier.
Maccabi Tel Aviv coach Avitar Givon expressed his satisfaction with the team's continued participation in European competition. "I am happy that we continue to play in the European framework this season," Givon stated. "The draw has presented us with an excellent team that plays a very high level of handball. I have no doubt that playing in Europe will contribute to us and help us as a team." He added that Maccabi Tel Aviv aims to win every match and will approach the game against the Swiss team with that mentality, emphasizing their strong desire to advance in the competition.
