Yakov Bardugo Explains Move From Media to Politics

Former Channel 14 commentator and new Likud party candidate Yakov Bardugo has explained his decision to leave the media and enter politics in an article published in "Olam Katan." Bardugo stated that after years of demanding accountability from decision-makers, he felt it was time to hold himself accountable.

Bardugo revealed that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu personally approached him, asking him to join the Likud party for the upcoming elections. He described Netanyahu's request as a call to be "a partner" rather than an outside commentator. Bardugo believes the upcoming elections will be crucial, focusing on internal struggles over Israel's identity, Jewish character, governance, judicial system, and opposition to a Palestinian state, rather than external conflicts.

He articulated his political goal as achieving victory in the elections and forming a strong national government capable of governing. Bardugo also addressed political rivals like Gadi Eisenkot, acknowledging Eisenkot's military service but highlighting fundamental disagreements on core Israeli issues.

Bardugo also cited the recent passing of his mother as a personal factor, recalling her teachings about contributing to the country and taking responsibility. He concluded by stating that he is now answering Netanyahu's call to enter the "room where decisions are made" after years of observing from the outside.
