IDF on High Alert Across All Fronts Ahead of Jewish Holidays

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is on maximum alert across all fronts as the Jewish High Holidays approach, amid heightened tensions with Iran, Lebanon, the Gaza Strip, Judea and Samaria, Syria, and Yemen. The Air Force has increased readiness for both air defense and offense, anticipating potential missile launches from Iran, which is considered the primary threat. The IDF is preparing for two scenarios: renewed conflict alongside the United States, or an Israeli Air Force-only operation. Military assessments suggest Iran's leadership, feeling cornered, might attempt to launch missiles toward Israel, a move they have thus far avoided. An expanded conflict with Iran could also impact the Yemen front, potentially leading to further launches by the Houthis.

In the Gaza Strip, a high state of alert is maintained, particularly ahead of the one-year anniversary of the October 7th massacre. Hamas is suspected of attempting a raid on an IDF post within Israel's pre-1967 borders. The terror organization continues to smuggle weapons, maintain its rule, and seek rearmament, with the IDF particularly concerned about the introduction of fiber-optic drones into the Strip.

Security officials are also worried about the West Bank, which could erupt at any moment. Twenty-six battalions and eight companies are on alert for both Palestinian terrorist attacks and attacks by Jewish extremists. In Lebanon, the IDF is on high alert following its demolition of Hezbollah's last tunnels in the Akar region of southern Lebanon, destroying all of the organization's infrastructure there. Israel fears this action could provoke a response from Hezbollah and threats from Iran. Upcoming talks with the Lebanese government will address the potential expansion of the IDF's withdrawal southward.

In Syria, Israel is monitoring efforts to rebuild the Syrian army and Turkey's attempts to establish a presence. Following the tunnel destruction, an Israeli official told Saudi outlet Al-Hadath that Israel had raised its defense and offense alert levels. Israel has reportedly conveyed a message to Hezbollah and Iran that it will respond disproportionately to any retaliation.

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi sent a holiday message to soldiers, praising their dedication and the bond between the people and the army. He saluted troops serving in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, and Judea and Samaria, and remembered fallen soldiers and supported their families. Halevi emphasized that the sacrifices of the fallen and wounded would continue to guide the IDF, wishing the nation a secure and unified new year.
