Israel's Foreign Minister Invites Fugitive Suspect to Embassy Opening

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar invited Israel Einhorn, a man linked to several criminal investigations including the "Qatargate" and "Bild" affairs, to an official ceremony for the opening of Israel's embassy in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Einhorn is considered a fugitive with an active arrest warrant against him.

According to a report in the Israeli newspaper "Haaretz," Einhorn was invited to the ceremony, which took place yesterday. Saar's office confirmed the invitation, stating that Einhorn "contributed and contributes to Israel-Slovenia relations and was indeed invited to the embassy opening event."

Despite the suspicions against him, Einhorn has previously attended an Israeli embassy event in the United States alongside the then-Speaker of the Knesset, Amir Ohana. In January, Israeli police announced an outstanding arrest warrant for Einhorn, identifying him as a key suspect in the "Qatargate" affair and the German newspaper "Bild" case.

Einhorn is allegedly involved in three separate cases: the harassment of state witness Shlomo Filber, where an indictment was filed against him along with others; the "Bild" affair, involving the theft and leaking of classified documents to foreign media; and the "Qatargate" affair. He has reportedly sought to negotiate terms for his investigation in Israel, including avoiding arrest if he returns, but prosecutors have rejected these conditions.
