Foreign Minister Invites Fugitive Suspect to Embassy Opening

Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi invited Yisrael Einhorn, a suspect in the "Qatargate" and document leak affairs, to the inauguration ceremony of the embassy in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Einhorn has previously been designated a "fugitive offender" by the police and has an arrest warrant against him in Israel due to the suspicions.

A statement from Ashkenazi's office said that "Yisrael Einhorn has contributed and continues to contribute to Israel-Slovenia relations and was indeed invited to the embassy opening event." According to one source, Einhorn is involved in the rapprochement of relations between the two countries.

Recently, the State Prosecutor's Office filed an indictment against Einhorn, Yonatan Uriach, and Ofer Golan for harassing state witness Shlomo Filber, as they have been unable to bring Einhorn to trial. The prosecution had previously informed the court that they could not secure the extradition of Einhorn, a former advisor to Prime Minister Netanyahu, who is accused of harassing Filber and suspected in the "Bild" and Qatargate affairs.

Following the prosecution's announcement, the court ordered them to notify within two weeks if they would proceed with the indictment in the witness harassment case against Netanyahu's other advisors, Ofer Golan and Yonatan Uriach. The prosecution had sought Einhorn's extradition from Serbia or an international arrest warrant against him. Attorney Amit Haddad stated, "There is the issue of Einhorn, regarding whom the prosecution says the case cannot proceed without him. The prosecution needs to state how they intend to bring him and what the expectation is."
