Jerusalem on High Alert for High Holidays with Major Security Deployment

Jerusalem is implementing extensive security measures ahead of the upcoming High Holidays, which begin Friday evening. Thousands of police officers, Border Police, and volunteers have been deployed throughout the city, its surroundings, holy sites, and crowded areas to ensure the safety of residents, worshippers, and visitors. The operation, under the command of Jerusalem District Commander Superintendent Asher Fuld, includes intensified efforts against illegal infiltrators, as well as targeted enforcement against those who transport, employ, or house them. Police are also focusing on maintaining public order, sovereignty, governance, and routine security, utilizing both visible and undercover units.

Significant traffic disruptions are anticipated, particularly around the Old City. Due to the large influx of worshippers, private vehicles and buses will be barred from entering the Old City. Roads near the Old City, including Ma'ale HaShalom, HaOfel, Jaffa Gate, Yitzhak Kariv, and adjacent streets, will experience blockages or alternating traffic. The public is strongly advised to avoid private car travel and instead utilize public transportation and "park and ride" facilities at Mount Herzl, Nachal Tzufim, and Safra.
