Smotrich Bids Farewell to Minister Ofir Sofer, Praising His Quiet Work

Religious Zionism party members and party chairman, Minister Bezalel Smotrich, bid farewell to Minister of Aliyah and Integration Ofir Sofer at a New Year's toast event. Sofer, who has served seven years in the Knesset and twelve years in the political arena, chose not to run in the upcoming elections.

During the event, Smotrich lauded Sofer's "quiet work" at the ministry, calling him a "partner, friend, and brother." Smotrich highlighted Sofer's twelve years of deep partnership, noting their internal discussions and mutual respect despite differing perspectives. He praised Sofer's leadership at the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration, stating that Sofer managed the ministry "without noise or fanfare," steering it effectively and developing activities in North America and Europe, accomplishing tasks that had been neglected for years.

Sofer, in turn, thanked party members for their shared journey and expressed his personal feelings since announcing his decision not to seek re-election. He humorously described the "serious celebration" of his cortisol levels dropping in recent weeks, contrasting his own "Day of Judgment" with that of his party colleagues. Sofer concluded by emphasizing the special period they had experienced together and wished the people and State of Israel a happy new year.

The event marked the end of Sofer's extensive public service career.
