Israeli Unit Seizes 220 Tons of Waste in West Bank Crossing Crackdown

The 'David' unit of the Civil Administration, in cooperation with law enforcement and security agencies and the Ministry of Environmental Protection, has thwarted attempts to smuggle approximately 220 tons of waste through crossings in Judea and Samaria since the beginning of the week. The operation targeted illegal waste dumping, a practice contributing to air pollution.

During the enforcement actions, seven smuggling attempts were foiled. At the Eliyahu and Hutzot Shechem crossings, two trucks carrying construction waste were seized. A truck with mixed waste was intercepted at the Meitarim crossing, and at the Qalandia crossing, two trucks transporting iron and construction waste were impounded. Additionally, a nighttime operation at the Az-Zaim crossing resulted in the seizure of two trucks heavily loaded with construction debris.

All seized trucks and their contents were transferred to impound lots in Tzofim, Rantis, and Meitarim for further processing by enforcement authorities. The owners of the trucks will be summoned for a hearing with the Environmental Quality Officer. The Civil Administration stated that the joint task force will continue its efforts to eradicate illegal waste dumping, reduce air pollution, and maintain zero tolerance for environmental offenses.
