Hasidic Community Raises Millions for Institutions Without State Funding
Thousands of Tolded Aaron Hasidim gathered in Meron this week for a celebratory event marking the successful conclusion of their annual fundraising campaign for the community's Torah and education institutions. These institutions operate entirely on donations from Hasidim, receiving no government funding. This year, Hasidim from Israel and abroad contributed millions of shekels, with individual donations ranging from 4,500 shekels to as high as 200,000 shekels annually.
The event, held at the tomb of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai in Meron, also served as a token of appreciation for the donors' commitment. Thousands of Hasidim participated in prayer gatherings on the roof of the holy site, followed by a special "tish" (a Hasidic gathering with the Rebbe) led by the Grand Rabbi. A highlight of the event was the distribution of 12 special loaves of challah by the Rebbe, intended to bring livelihood and blessings, a practice observed by some Hasidim on Shabbat. For over two hours, Hasidim passed before the Rebbe to receive a challah and an apple for the new year.
